Crafting the Perfect Candle Box Design
Candle packaging design can make or break your first impression on a customer. Your outer packaging needs to do a lot: convey what’s inside, catch someone’s attention, and provide information about your brand. It’s crucial to spend significant time designing your packaging or outsource it to a professional if you lack the time or skill.Â
Â
Starting Simple
Starting with limited or no retail packaging is common among candle makers to keep costs low. However, if you want to increase the professionalism and consequently the price point of your candles, candle box packaging design is the way to go.
Cost-Effective Solutions
Using sleeves can be a cost-effective solution. For instance, I have 20 core scents and having a different box for each candle isn’t feasible because I have to buy each variation in the hundreds. Instead of separate boxes for each fragrance, I created one that would work for each size and then had custom sleeves printed per scent. I still have to buy large quantities of sleeves, but they are much cheaper because they are shipped flat and use less material than boxes. Conversely, I use individual boxes for my 10 ml perfumes because the small amount of material keeps costs low.
Â
Enhancing Simplicity
A simpler box can be enhanced with textural elements like foil, linen, or embossing. Trying to incorporate too many design elements can make the box look confusing or tacky to customers or retailers. Instead, focus on one or two key elements that will complement the overall design of the box.
Â
Durability and Appeal
Rigid boxes or tubes are essential for wholesale and retail. Your packaging must withstand a retail environment, including stacking on shelves, being picked up by customers, and prolonged storage. It also needs to stand out to capture someone’s attention as they browse in a store.
By focusing on these aspects of candle packaging design, you can create packaging that not only protects your product but also elevates your brand and attracts customers. Remember, design candle packaging thoughtfully to make a lasting impression.
